THE
CHARITABLE IDEA
People get forgetful.
Family issues and health issues -- and plain old age --
may cause owners to not pay their dues on time. They paid
their mortgage. They paid their property taxes too. But they
failed to pay their maintenance fees to the association in a
timely manner.
Should
that be reason enough for families to lose their homes to
foreclosure? We think our society should be ashamed to allow
this to happen, but so far our legislators are allowing FORECLOSURES
FOR PEANUTS. Over and over we see headlines like these in the
media:
Owners
are losing their homes, but not because of the initial measly
sum owed in unpaid dues. As
you can see from the examples above, outrageous fees are added to
the initial amount of money actually owed to the association.
As
much as we understand that associations need the money to pay
bills, we don't think that small amounts should mushroom into
such huge amounts owed, causing families to lose their homes.
These
owners need -- and surely deserve -- our help. Admittedly,
many owners make mistakes and don’t act promptly when served
with foreclosure papers. Many owners just can’t believe that
our society would allow foreclosures on families’ homes for
such small amounts of money.
The
"punishment" -- losing their homes -- surely doesn't
fit the “crime” of non-payment of small amounts of
maintenance fees.
These
owners need to be educated and they need help -- help we will
try to provide.
